Sanctuary c. 2008
4 x 6 Digital Collage in Photoshop
Sellersville, PA

My home is a place of peace and beauty where I can hide from the world and dream. I am inspired by my natural surroundings and what happens to them when I warp or romanticize them in my imagination. For this piece, I simply chose digital images of my house, the surrounding land, my fiance and my dogs and merged them into a manipulated collage.

This is one of the first wish you were here projects that I viewed and I think it truly captures the purpose of the assignment. I love the blurred thoughts and dreams you have represented in the window.

Hi Christy,
I love the daydream quality in your work. The layers of color make it look like a stained glass window.

I daydream a lot and this image really depicts a person longing and daydreaming. Your presence in the piece isn't overwhelming but still is there.

Christy!
This is piece is so thoughtful, personal, comforting and introspective. There is definitely a dream-like quality that is emulated through the composition and color pallet of this piece. This is really beautiful and delicate piece. Great work!

Hello Christy. Your piece reminds me - or at least the window section - of a crystal ball where everything is all jumbled up and then slowly merges together into one image. It seems like many places and images are in the process of melding into something and that you are waiting at the bottom right to see what it will become. Kind of like the a magic mirror, crystal ball or maybe even a time machine....if there were such things, your window to the world might be sort of like this. Nice piece.

This idea reminded me of Indian Architecture. Not so much the aesthetic, but your description as well as the comments on your piece (of course the piece itself has very much to do with it--especially the idea of you reminiscing on the collaged/fractured images in the window). The major difference is that they do not employ recognizable images in their architectural spaces, however, without careful investigation, one could not decipher the recognizable images in your window either. In their architecture, they seek to create the disillusionment of space so that they may delve completely into their religious (spiritual) motivations. On a much simpler (and by simpler I mean more intimate) scale, you have created a disillusioned space, seemingly so that you may delve further into some type of positive spiritual moment (that possibly being your affinity for your natural surroundings as well as your loved ones). Quite nice.

This piece rivals Rita's for most beautiful piece. It's a great image, and you look so pretty daydreaming out of this window, with beau and pups in mind! The light coming in the window (or in the room) is just right, and the hallucinogenic layers of thoughts and pictures is really subtle and very effective. Did I mention pups?!

Hi
The composition of this piece is very interesting. The window frames seem to act as an invitation to look at each pane on it's own as well as acknowledge that each is part of a bigger picture.
While also being elements in a whole, each window pane shows different layering and combinations of the elements that make up home for you,but which take on a life and abstact meaning when viewed on their own.For me,each separate pane stands up as complex, gorgeous piece of art.It also speaks of the need to be an individual, while also being part of the community.

Your piece is very lovely. It captures your feeling for your home strongly. In fact, it does make me "wish I was there."

Thank you for your comment, and for noticing the angry editorial feel of it. That was certainly the predominant emotion when I was creating it.

This is such an interesting piece. There are soo many layers and hints of what you deem special. Truly a visual extension of whats on your mind when it comes to "Wish You Were Here."

I completely understand that feeling of finally being settled. It's one of those transformative times of one's life. I am glad you're experiencing it.

This is amazing! I love the way you framed the composition with the window and how the rest of the image is inside/reflected on the window. The fact that you portrait is there makes the piece that much more powerful and moving. I can really get a sense of place here and although it seems like a lot is going on it also seems very warming.

Thank you for your comment on my WYWH. Apocalyptic is maybe what I did, but the presence of decay among otherwise 'healthy' buildings was something new to me, and it was everywhere! To a certain extent it still is, but I don't gawk at it as much, or something... Yeah, the sense of waste among center city neighborhoods was stunning, and the dealers on the corner didn't help any, either.

Christy, you really managed to create an image of you giving goo-goo eyes to Dave in a non-cheesy way. The image reflected on the glass reminds me of a reflection in water, like if you touched it, it would disappear. Good work chief!
